1 Air OP Flight, Gagetown Detachment, June-July 1958
(with L-19 705 at Bell Bridge Strip)

L to R

Lt Bud Gorrell (RCASC),   Lt Bill Binney (RCASC),   Capt R.G. Heitshu (Detachment Commander)(RCA),   Capt Rene Jalbert (R 22e R),
Lt Bill Pylypow (RCA),   Lt Phil Robinson (RCA).

Note: Lt Bill Pylypow was killed in the crash of an L-19 with Sgt Gallant.

In 1958, Headquarters 1 Division was reduced to nil strength. A Detachment was dispatched to Camp Gagetown
in order to provide support for 3 brigade. The Detachment was augmented by 2 additional pilots consisting of
Lt Gorrell (RCASC) and Lt Binney (RCASC). This was the first mixed flying unit consisting of Service Corps pilots.
Charismatic flyer Capt Jalbert who trained in Rivers, was a frequent visitor.

BTW: Capt Jalbert went on to greater fame when he made news headlines
after convincing a man, with a machine gun, to release hostages taken in the Chamber
of the National Assembly of Quebec (see video below).

Rene Jalbert, Canadian Hero
